Orangery Interior Design Ideas

The way you decorate your orangery depends on your use for the space. Since an orangery is a permanent fixture that can be used as an extension to your living area your options to decorate are endless. No matter how you choose to use your orangery, here are a few interior decorating tips that would enhance your designs and make it feel more like a part of your home.

Natural Plants

An orangery was originally created to act as a green house. Add natural plants that will thrive in the ideal growing conditions an orangery provides. Not only do you add a new level of depth to your décor you also add a fresh breathe of life into any room with living plants. Choose different types green plants to create a lush atmosphere.

For added use, have a small herb garden within your orangery that not only gives you fresh flavour in your home cooked meals but also creates a nice natural fragrance in the room.

Rug

Add a bit of warmth to your open room with a large rug. Choose a neutral and simple rug with contemporary, modern style furniture and thick, lush rugs with more elegant and upscale décor.

To create a separation within the same room, you can use different rugs to identify defined areas if you’re using your orangery for different purposes.

Curtains

Whether you use curtains for practical or style reasons, curtains are a great way to add texture and colour into your orangery living area. Choose thin and light curtains to add a contemporary touch of depth to the room.  You can use thick, velvety fabrics to add elegance and glamour to more regal décor.

Add more flair to the curtains with sophisticated curtain ropes, decorative curtain rods, and metal curtain holder accents.

Lighting

Add sufficient lighting in the room to enhance its features when the sun goes down. Floor and table lamps create a strong lighting effect but can also be used to add a touch of style. Add elegant or funky lampshades for added interior fashion.

Candles also act as a mesmerizing enhancement to an orangery. The reflection of the candle light on the glass walls and ceiling makes for a romantic ambiance.

Decorating for small spaces

If you want to make the most of a small space then decorating it properly is essential, but try not to pay too much attention to all those ‘rules’ you hear when you think about decorating. A lot of people suggest light colours, to draw in the light and make the room look larger, but why? If it’s a small room make it look cosy, don’t try too hard to make it seem bigger than it is – dark colours add a look of depth to a small space and with some light colours splashed here and there you can add a touch of class to mimic a fashionable French chateau.

A lot of people say you should use furniture sparingly in a small space, but why not get the most out of your space? Fit shelves to ensure you get the storage space you need and do what you want with the space available to you. Hanging lights conserve space and can add a good atmosphere to a dining table or provide lighting to your favourite reading chair. You don’t have to use your small rooms as storage, use them! Why waste space at all? Get rid of your clutter and transform your rooms into something you can use.

Use your space for what you want, if you have a small conservatory turn it into something perfect for you, if you’ve converted your garage create yourself a large spa like bathroom Why create guest rooms and offices if you’re not going to use them? Turn the guest room into a large walk-in wardrobe and save yourself some storage space in the bedroom. If you do this you can turn your bedroom into a sensual, private space that is sure to prove more beneficial. Opt for fewer but larger furniture, a large bed and perhaps a bedroom sofa can give a real French antique feel to your bedroom.

Use furniture that doubles in use, a large dining table can make a great desk but it can still be a dining table when you entertain. Having your furniture set away from the walls can also help to improve the use of space, making it easier to move around as well as adding the impression of excess space. Storage can be a big issue for people without a lot of space, try finding a sofa with storage space under the seat; this can be useful for general storage. Beds with draws can be perfect for bed sheets and extra blankets or pillows.

Try not to feel limited by the space available to you; you’re more likely to make good use of it if you’re aware that good use can be made of it.
